Saturday, May 17, 2025, 10 am – 12:30 pm

Atkinson Plumeria Farm, 5239 Alzeda Dr, La Mesa CA 91941

Only 20 tickets available! Deadline to sign up is Thursday, May 15, 5:00 pm.

In Hawaiian, “po’o” means “head,” so a lei po’o is a head lei. You’ll make a beautiful 21-inch Lei Po’o using a beautiful assortment of plumerias, seasonal flowers, and greenery (dependent on availability). You’ll learn the wili (pronounced “vee-lee” meaning to wind or twist) method to make your Lei Po’o.

Your teacher is award-winning San Diego lei maker Margery Ohlson. She’ll share information about how to prepare the materials and prolong the life of your Lei Po’o. She will talk about lei culture and lei etiquette, all while Hawaiian music plays softly in the background.

If you want to preserve your lei, bring an ice chest with an ice pack covered by at least 3-4 layers of newspaper/paper towel or a cloth towel.

What to bring:

  • Water bottle (refills provided)
  • Hat
  • Pen
  • Close-toed shoes
  • Aloha spirit
  • And wear sunscreen

We’ll be in the shade in our covered, outdoor classroom. This is a rain-or-shine event.

Check-in begins 15 minutes before the event starts. Please give yourself enough time to arrive, park, and get a seat, as the event will begin promptly at the start time.

Price: $60 includes hands-on instruction, lei culture & etiquette session, all materials needed, and extensive Q&A.
