Learn to make a beautiful plumeria lei po’o from an award-winning lei maker!

Saturday, August 23, 10 am – 1 pm

Atkinson Plumeria Farm, 5239 Alzeda Dr, La Mesa CA 91941

Only 20 tickets available! The deadline to sign up is Thursday, August 21st at 8 pm.

In Hawaiian, “po’o” means “head,” so a lei po’o is a head lei. You’ll make a beautiful 21-inch Lei Po’o using a stunning assortment of plumerias, seasonal flowers, and greenery (dependent on availability). You’ll learn the wili (pronounced “vee-lee” meaning to wind or twist) method to make your Lei Po’o.

Your teacher is award-winning San Diego lei maker Margery Ohlson. (See photos below.) She’ll share information about how to prepare the materials and prolong the life of your Lei Po’o. She will talk about lei culture and lei etiquette, all while Hawaiian music plays softly in the background.

We’ll be in our open classroom in the shade. This is a rain-or-shine event.

What to bring:

  • Water bottle (refills provided)
  • Hat
  • Close-toed shoes
  • Wear sunscreen
  • Aloha spirit

NOTE: To preserve your lei, bring an ice chest with an ice pack covered by at least three to four layers of newspaper/paper towels, or a cloth towel.

Check-in begins 15 minutes before the class start time. Please allow yourself sufficient time to arrive, park, and find a seat, as the class will begin promptly at the scheduled start time.

Price: $60 includes hands-on instruction, a lei culture & etiquette session, all necessary materials, and an extensive Q&A.
